About Us
Multiskills initially started as a Refugee Access to Employment or RATE in the London Borough of Southwark to support an increasing number of refugees in finding paid employment if skilled or UK work experience with local employers to establish a work track record and a reference. The Project had its base in Aylesbury Estate and was fully funded by Aylesbury New Deal for Communities for 10 years to address the refugee employment and language issues – Skills for Life programmes in Southwark.
We worked very closely with Southwark Social services Refugee Team, Refugee Council and Medical Foundation for Victims of Torture. Aylesbury Estate is officially one of the largest Estate in Europe, very densely populated and with huge inner city problems, especially high unemployment in both refugees and local residents and officially within a deprived area under government’s indices of deprivation. Aylesbury has a population of 12,500 and 10% of this are refugees and 60% are BAME.
The Rate project changed its name to Multiskills Training & Recruitment Ltd, a not-for-profit organization and a social enterprise to provide services for all in job brokerage, work placements, Skills for Life Programmes in ESOL Literacy, Numeracy and ICT including a raft of employment -related short courses. Multiskills has an enviable record in the delivery of sustainable employment and ESOL provision and recognized and fully funded by Southwark Council EDT Team, Southwark Adult Learning Service and has been a delivery agent for First Steps Programme with Peabody Housing Trust as the Lead Organization.
